Curriculum Kits for Loan to Educators
In collaboration with Ecology in the Classrooms & Outdoors (ECO), we offer 10 NGSS-aligned curriculum kits for Wheeler County educators to borrow at no cost.
- These place-based units focus on the plants, animals, and ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest.
- The classroom-ready kits come with everything needed to present the module and assess student learning.
- They are available for pick-up from our office. With advance notice, we may be able to arrange a delivery.
- We also have downloadable PDFs of each lesson if you choose not to borrow a full kit with materials.

Kindergarten
Animal Habitats
Students embark on the exploration of different animal habitats, using colorful cards to match Northwest animals to their habitats.
Plant Survival
Students discuss plant parts, and what plants need to survive. Students then use their powers of observation to investigate species and samples.
1st Grade
Soil Inquiry
Students are given soil samples and taught to utilize their powers of observation to explore and investigate the mysteries of soil.
2nd Grade
Habitat Who Am I?
After learning characteristics of various Northwest habitats, students will play a mystery game to identify a local habitat.
Pollinators
Students learn about pollination, then delve into a hands-on activity that explores the structure and function of pollinators’ specialized bodies, illustrating their invaluable place in ecosystems.
3rd Grade
Journey of a Drop
Students learn the stages of the water cycle, then solidify the concepts by reenacting a water journey of their own in a fun-filled game.
4th Grade
Plant ID
Students learn about the characteristics of plant and leaf structure, then apply this knowledge to identify native plants with a dichotomous key.
Beaver Adaptations
Students make connections between the adaptations of beavers and their ability to survive in their habitat. Looking at characteristics in order to understand how physical characteristics support survival.
Oregon Lands
Using geographic inquiry and hands-on materials, students learn that mapping Oregon can look different throughout Oregon’s nine ecoregions and cultural implications of the tribes.
5th Grade
Beavers as Engineers
This lesson is multisensory and encourages students to use their powers of observation, collaboration, and problem-solving to engineer a dam.
Native or Invasive Plants
Delve into the world of native and invasive plants. After learning about the key characteristics of many invasive plants, students will become “plant detectives,” using photographs and key pieces of information to solve plant mysteries.
