Project Abstract

 

Project Location

Cottonwood Creek runs through Fossil, Oregon within the Butte Creek Watershed, a sub-watershed within the John Day watershed. The creek is a direct tributary to Butte Creek, which is listed Essential Steelhead Habitat.

Project Need 

 The section of stream within the project boundaries has been heavily browsed and compacted by livestock use, causing increased sediment inputs, polluting the water with animal waste, and overall lowering water quality.

 Proposed Project Work

 This project aims to add fencing and plantings around the stream to remove direct access and improve water quality for the stream.

Project Partners 

 Project partners include the OWEB, Wheeler SWCD, CTWS, City of Fossil, and the landowner.
